Boris Badenough - Hey Rocky! (7" 45 RPM Single Edit){Trax, 1986}
In late 1986, a Top-40/Contemporary Hit radio format was starving for more novelty-oriented entries, aside from the excellent song parodies of "Weird Al" Yankovic, And here came this non-charted classic on the small Trax Records label by an artist named "Boris Badenough." Dean Anderson, a record producer from Chicago, conjoured the idea of producing some dance beats while sampling bits from "The Adventures Of Bullwinkle And Rocky," the classic 1959-1964 cartoon series from Jay Ward Productions. He billed himself under the "Boris Badenough" pseudonym. While the 12-inch "Disco Single" version has been readily available online for some time, oddly this 7-inch single has not. While shorter in length by nearly three minutes, the 45-RPM single edit has more "comprehensive" dialogue sampling not featured on the "long version." It has been said that Anderson, who was also billed as "Boris Betanoff," used this particular song title as a supposed taunt to the boss of rival Chicago record-label DJ International, Rocky Jones...all in good fun, of course.
