Theatrical trailer for the acclaimed Korean War drama, based on the best-selling book by James Michener, THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI, starring William Holden, Grace Kelly, Frederic March and Mickey Rooney. After spending time aboard the USS Essex (CV-9) aircraft carrier, Michener was impressed by the pilots of a Banshee jet fighter sqaudron, VF-172, and penned this incisive tale of duty, fear, love and death in an unwanted war. Interestingly, one of the pilots in the VF-172 was future astronaut, Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. When BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI went before the cameras, with the full co-operation of the US Navy, the Banshees were replaced with frontline F9F Panthers. One of the pilots in the squadron used during filming was Alan Shepard, one of the original Mercury astronauts and America's first man into space.
