THE ACTOR -- WHOSE DAUGHTER IS JAMIE LEE CURTIS -- IS PROBABLY BEST KNOWN FOR HIS ROLE IN THE 1960 EPIC "SPARTACUS" AND AS MARILYN MONROE'S CO-STAR IN "SOME LIKE IT HOT." CURTIS RECEIVED AN OSCAR NOMINATION FOR 1958'S "THE DEFIANT ONES," IN WHICH HE AND SIDNEY POITIER PLAYED ESCAPED CONVICTS ON THE RUN IN THE DEEP SOUTH. TONY CURTIS WAS 85 YEARS OLD.
