The Birds Opening Title Sequence with Symphonic Score
The "Semi-Official" Main Title Score to the Film. Written in 1992 by Marc Parella and performed by the 92 piece Arizona State Symphony Orchestra directed by Henry Charles Smith, Tippi Hedren called the score "imaginative" and "exciting". The last attack scene was also scored and performed by the ASU Symphony Orchestra. The scoring is meant to reflect musical styles of the era and propose what Bernard Hermann might have written instead of using the film as an empty canvass to write something uncharacteristic and not stylistic for the time. The 1963 film is noted for not having a traditional score (although Hitchcock was cleaver in getting music into the film by way of children singing and Hedren playing the piano). Parella's score is an attempt to create a "what if" scenario.
