Tippi Hedren, known to all as the legendary Hitchcock heroine who suffered the slings and arrows or, more accurately, the beaks and claws of a bedroom full of angry birds in the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic, The Birds is not as well known as a Humanitarian and Animal Rights activist. Her work and protection of Big Cats on her ranch, Shambala Preserve www.shambala.org in Acton California, is also legendary. It houses anywhere from 60 to 70 Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Servals and more, many originally purchased by people as pets, which, naturally, became uncontrollable and dangerous when they reached maturity. Ms. Hedren is valiantly attempting to enact legislature to prevent the purchase of Big Cats as household pets and to ban the unthinkable and reprehensible act of Canned Hunting.
