Sophie Rehmus "the Simple Things"

Sophie Rehmus, who has attended 5 IMA Camps, 2 Recording and three Performance ~ is working on her first ep at IMA which is also her senior thesis. "Simple Things" began on acoustic guitar and turned into reggae sometime this summer ~ it just wanted to be fun!, and simple... but we had to wait 'till after Camps finished in August to begin work on this collection. After Pre-Production Sophie, Lee and I decided we could do everything in one weekend, which we did. With good charts, a good song, an excellent artist and studio ~ anything is possible! As I had injured my knee I wasn't able to do as much shooting as I wished last weekend, but luckily Ann agreed to do several passes. As we were in separate rooms for (recording) isolation it wasn't easy, but she got enough of the basic for me to work with. I then video'd Lee playing bass and conga, sitting all the while at the main console area.. and then we added harmonies. Lastly, I added electric guitar lines; you'll see Lee admiring the wood on my vintage Fender Jazzmaster, which I bought in a pawnshop in New Orleans probably in the Fall '74. [normally I would have used more footage of Sophie singing, but we can always shoot more later]. This is a hard-played and well-loved guitar that surely has a long and interesting story to tell. It lets out a bit of that deep vibe on "Simple Things", giving us that sweet tone that speaks volumes ... and everything just fits together nicely.
