The Face on the Barroom Floor, a film by Denis Wall, performed by David Parry in 1976
An engaging performance. David Parry performed for my camera in 1976 in Guelph, ON. Canada. I had met him at Fiddlers' Green in Toronto and asked if he would be interested in doing it. Of course, as you see, he said, "Yes", without reservation. "The face on the barroom floor", alternatively titled "The face on the floor", is described this way in an unattributed statement: "Its authorship has been disputed for many years. The Reader's Encyclopedia of American Literature records that the first appearance in print was in 1872 ... by John Henry Titus." That was another version. This version is apparently by Hugh Antoine d'Arcy and appended to an article in the New York Dispatch (about 1897). Such performances were popular in the 1970s and are once again popular in the 2010s. Ron Moody recited it at the Royal Command Variety Performance of 1968 with the Queen present. My apologies, this is a poor telecine transfer/digital reproduction of an otherwise clean, crisp and sharp 16mm film
