Trabue Gentry - Sherry Does Niles

St. Louis area based, Sherry Clapsaddle is an exceptionally talented, extremely creative and highly adaptive keyboard artist that I am privileged to call on for studio work when the piece may require it. Kevin and I had just laid down the basic tracks to a new song we had just written entitled "The Absence Of Light" and I called on sherry for her additional input and talent. Neither of us had any idea what we were in for. Sherry is a well seasoned professional known for her energetic, animated and, most importantly in this case, flawless stage performances. But on this particular day Sherry was having "one of those days" every studio musician dreads. I call it "studio fright"...a common malady among studio musicians of every caliber. The minute you hit that record button sometimes you just can't do anything right. I am probably the biggest offender of all. Well, this was one of those days for Sherry. It was a fairly simple conceptual piece that I wanted her to over dub. But with each take she continually screwed up. The harder she tried, the more she screwed up. At one point when she thought she finally had it right she fell back against the wall, slowly slid down to the floor and disappeared cowering under her keyboard in anticipation of what the playback would reveal. This is one of those rare moments that I just relish.
