UN Serbia: Forum Pravih Muskaraca / Forum of Real Men

UN in Serbia commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a particular theme on the role of men as a part of the solution to ending violence against women and joined the global campaign 'UNiTE'. Approximately 54% of women in Serbia have experienced some form of domestic violence. During the last three years the number of reported cases has tripled. The most common form is violence against women, and in 75% of the cases the perpetrator is the current or former partner. A total of 6500 cases of domestic violence were reported in 2011. Unfortunately, black figure is that 44 women were killed in 2011 in partnership relationship, as data of NGOs show (Source: Mapping of Domestic Violence in Central Serbia, www.undp.org.rs The 'Forum of Real Men' established by signing a Declaration of Real Men to End Violence Against Women calls upon men and boys to stand up against violence and be part of a solution. The Forum represents a network of men leaders in different fields and walks of life who take a firm stand to end violence against women.
