The excellent British mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly sang the role of the naive and emotional Composer in Richard Strauss's opera "Ariadne auf Naxos" at the Metropolitan Opera, New York in February 2010. Soprano Kathleen Kim was the pragmatic and manipulative comedian Zerbinetta. Each was singing her role for the first time. The Composer is deeply offended at the instruction by his rich patron's major domo that his serious opera and a commedia dell'arte act must be performed at the same time.
