30. 1969 -- 1973, THE FAMILY DOG ON THE GREAT HIGHWAY at Playland on the Beach, an abandoned amusement park become Hot Rock Venue: "SUNDAY COMMONS MEETINGS, EVENTS & BANDS " Planning sessions mixing public and Stars to get new ideas to keep the Family Dog on the Great Hwy fresh -- included Chet Helms, the Family Dog (not Footers, but several others) and members of the Page, Hayes, Pine, Linden, Bourbon, Lyon & Sutter and other streets' communes (down the street from Santana, who in 1972, had their practice studio near Sundance Magazine on Fillmore street,, where we used to drop by after magazine layout sessions) Chet's stepdaughter Sarah, his brother Johnny and son Jimmy, his companion Judy Gumbo (alias J. Davis, when I abandoned the "Executive Ballroom refuge where I officiated at the phones, to live in a Hog Farm-style bus parked at the Berkeley Tribe where I was staff photogger and layout artist, she suspected me of being a spy, so followed me to Tribe meetings to see what we were up to there, as did Bells and Gentle Waters, she's by now great -- grandmother as I soon will be too!) Because I'd been co-owner of Grandee Ballroom in Detroit from 1966 to it's end, I had a few inroads and contacts to bring to the table and was able to get work for all the best Detroit bands of the time (who needed the jobs) as well as several English bands Chet had never worked with before.
