CowaPunka! started in 2003 by Anje Vela in San Francisco. The idea came to her when putting together shows around the San Francisco Bay Area. Three bands inspired the launch of this event: Sammy Shakes, Mojo Apostles & Double Wyde John Deal of Mojo Apostles inspired Vela to do a benefit for the West Memphis Three & she's been raising funds/awareness since.
