Victor Almendariz - UT Tyler Men's Soccer (Oct. 8, 2011)

TYLER -- The UT Tyler men's soccer team defeated East Texas Baptist, 5-0, Saturday night on homecoming at the Citizens 1st Bank- Perkins Soccer Complex. The Patriots' now push their record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU falls to 3-9 and 3-4 in conference action. UT Tyler got on the board early in the 25th minute as Elijah Shipman scored with the assist credited to Victor Almendariz. Seven minutes later, a Jake Urbaniak pass found a surging Parker Hood who deposited the ball passed ETBU keeper Austin Walker to bring the score to 2-0. As the first half winded down, Taylor Nelson-Cook pushed the ball to a Almendariz who maneuvered his way through the Tiger defense to find the net and bring the score to 3-0 at the half. The second half was much of the same for the Tigers as they couldn't stop the Patriots' persistent offense and dominating defense. In the 59th minute, Alberto Munoz scored to push the score to 4-0 off of the well-placed assist by Erick DeSantiago. The Patriots' scored their fifth and final goal of the match when Almendariz found James Winkler in the box who pushed it passed the ETBU goalkeeper. Almendariz registered two assists for the match, while Elijah Shipman and Chris Powell totaled two shots on goal. UT Tyler outshot the Tigers 20-2 for the match and had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2. The Patriots hit the pitch again on Tuesday night, when they face off against Concordia in Austin and return home next Thursday ...
