Forward Andrade drifted inside from the right flank before catching Toffees goalkeeper James Fitzgibbon unawares with a sensational 30-yard strike four minutes into the second half to register the only goal of the game and help the hosts claim a memorable scalp. Before the Portuguese's intervention, current FA Premier Academy League champions Everton had seemed the more likely side to seize the initiative, despite Fitzgibbon being called upon to react quickly to beat away an early Andrade effort. Spurred on by a pressing approach that consistently yielded possession, Everton threatened, at times relentlessly. Anton Forrester spun to fire over during the opening gambits and, after England U18s man John Lundstram had been denied by Gareth Deane, Another of Everton's England starlets Hallam Hope was inches away from connecting with a Forrester centre. If that was a narrow escape for Rangers, they were soon thankful for the width of the right-hand upright as Forrester prodded against the woodwork.
