James Cameron Helping NASA Bring 3D Camera To Mars

Director James Cameron filmed underwater for Titanic and in 3-D for Avatar. Now, the Oscar-winner is taking filmmaking to the next level. It was announced back in April that Cameron had partnered with NASA for a mission scheduled for launch next year. Cameron is helping develop a 3-D camera to be mounted atop the Mars rover Curiosity. If all goes well, the director says we could see 3-D images of Mars in the near future. Cameron says he's been interested in Mars for quite a while. Eleven years ago, he was working on a Mars project that led to meetings with people at NASA while doing research. He says this is how he became officially involved with NASA, when the organization realized Cameron's knowledge of 3-D cameras and filming technology, as well as his interest in space, could benefit NASA's exploration of Mars. Cameron is also talking about sending humans to the red planet, but says to make that happen, we need to have a strong national interest in doing so. He adds that he would like to make films to get people excited about space exploration. As always, we want to hear from you in our comments section.
