Franck Pourcel - La Dolce Vita
Italian movie makers must have been 'lucky guys' in the 1950's and 60's as they could contact some of the best composers and orchestrators in their own country to write the soundtracks. The first name which might pop up in your mind might be that of Ennio Morricone but there's another well known Italian composer who "wrote musical history". We're talking about Nino Rota. Frederico Fellini, the director of the movie "La Dolce Vita" - where this music originates from - says about Rota : "The most precious collaborator I have ever had was Nino Rota . When I asked him about the melodies he had in mind to comment one sequence or another, I clearly realized he was not concerned with images at all. His world was inner, inside himself, and reality had no way to enter it. He was someone who had a rare quality belonging to the world of intuition. He was a genius." During his career, which covered about 40 years, Nino Rota wrote no less than 150 filmscores. According to the critics, there is no doubt that Rota's music played an important role when Fellini won the "Palme D'Or" (Cannes) in 1960. Here, French Maestro Franck Pourcel plays this great melody in his inimitable style - the music lending itself perfectly to be played by a 50 men strong orchestra. From the 1982 album "Palmes D'Or" here is Franck Pourcel et Son Grand Orchestre with Nino Rota's "La Dolce Vita". Enjoy.
