Sad Song - Ellen Foley
After hearing the very different version by Rachel Sweet on YouTube, I was reminded of this bittersweet epic from the seminal Nightout album by Ellen Foley who sang on Meatloaf's "Bat out of Hell". Ellen was the girlfriend of Mick Jones of the Clash who wrote "Should I Stay or Should I Go" about her. It's a sad song when love goes wrong Leaves you feeling like you never felt before Don't it hurt you - introvert you? Leave you bleeding, oh so lost and insecure Broken hearted melody Oh, what have you done to me? I feel that God alone can say Where I'll end up now What a sad song when love goes wrong Leaves you feeling like you never felt before Dont it shake you, almost break you Send you reeling, til youre rolling on the floor Broken hearted melody Oh, what have you done to me? I feel that God alone can say Where I'll end up now (oh wont you stay?) (sha la la, sha la la) (sha la la, sha la la) (sha la la, sha la la) Broken hearted melody Oh, what have you done to me? I feel that God alone can say Where I'll end up now What a sad song when love goes wrong Leaves you feeling like you never felt before Dont it shake you, almost break you Send you reeling, til youre rolling on the floor.... [ fade ] Written by Mark Middler and Peter Mason Produced by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson Taken from the Epic LP: "NIGHTOUT" JE 36052
