Flowers are words of love) was a very popular tango in France in 1942. It was sung by French cinema's golden girl Danielle Darrieux in "La Fausse Maîtresse" (The fake mistress) - the last movie she made for German owned Continental-Films. "La Fausse Maîtresse" was based on story by Honoré de Balzac and saw Darrieux working in a circuas a trapeze artist and singer. Darrieux' first Continental movie was "Le Premier Rendez-vous" which was a smash hit. Its title songs remains a classic to this day. "Les Fleurs sont des mots d'amour" was recorded by Danielle Darrieux for Polydor, by Marie-José on Odeon and Annette Lajon on Pathé. The orchestra of Pierre Pagliano accompanied Lajon but in an arrangement that is very different from his solo recording. The story of Continental-Films is quite fascinating... France had a very important movie industry. After France's defeat in the Second World War Germany allowed French production to resume as it knew full well there was a need for distraction and the French had a large appetite for movies which could not be satisfied by the films present in the archives.
