Episode from September 1979. Sound quality not great so turn up your speakers... Waggoners' Walk was a daily serial on BBC Radio 2 between April 1969 and May 1980. There was a new episode each afternoon at teatime which was repeated the following day mid-morning. The drama is set in a small cul de sac in Belsize Park, London NW3 At this point in the story, Claire and Mike Nash own No 1 Waggoners' Walk, the big house on the corner. Mike's the editor of the local paper. They have lodgers in the basement flat, Shirley and Cliff Edwards. Their marriage is struggling: Shirley's found she can't have kids and Cliff has had a one-night stand with Debbie Franks, a reporter on Mike's paper. She's now pregnant - and homeless. Shirley's mum Kath died suddenly a few weeks ago of a heart attack. She'd recently remarried but made no will: her husband, George Underdown, has thus inherited her entire estate, including her paper shop in Waggoners' Walk.
