"You wanna go someplace dark?..." Lily Taylor stars as a newly-turned vampire in contemporary New York City, and having endured the frightening & painful process of transforming into a full-fledged predatory blood sucker, she goes out into the nocturnal streets in search of her next hapless victim -- only to run smack into a master vampire with experience, knowledge & a sadistic streak far surpassing her own, played by Christopher Walken. In my opinion, she should've known she was in deep trouble as soon as she heard Walken say to her what the glamorous lady vampire (who had originally attacked her) had said, and what she herself had come to tell all of her human prey prior to her hungry attack: "Why don't you tell me to leave you alone, like you mean it?" Walken tackles the role utilizing classic Walken delivery, but as brief as his appearance is, he expertly conjures a sinister intensity, casting an even bleaker shadow on this allegorical story. The film in general seeks to draw direct comparisons between a vampire's thirst for blood & a drug addict's craving for a fix, and is one of the darkest vampire tales in recent years.
