Watch the groundbreaking ceremony for improvements to the outer road along Interstate 55 in Scott City. Speakers included: • Christopher (Kit) Bond, United States Senate • Jo Ann Emerson, United States House of Representatives • Steve Hodges, Missouri House of Representatives, District 161 • Jamie Burger, Presiding County Commissioner - Scott County • Paul Koeper, County Commissioner, District 1-Cape Girardeau County • Cheryl Ball, Assistant to the District Engineer - MoDOT The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract in June 2010 for improvements to Interstate 55 in Scott County. The $4333380 contract was awarded to RL Persons Construction Inc., Poplar Bluff, Mo. The project includes grading, paving, signal installation at the I-55 and Route AB interchange, and construction of an outer road from Route K to Route AB near Scott City. Additionally, a new bridge will be constructed over Ramsey Creek for the new outer road. Work began in August 2010, when the contractor began grading work for extension of the existing outer road and pavement of Mulberry Street in Scott City. Work is expected to be complete in summer 2012.
