On our dealer trade, we demonstrate the 2011 Silverado 1500, 5.3 liter engine with Active Fuel Management. You will notice the truck switching back and forth between 4 cylinders and 8. We kept the truck on cruise control at 72 mph through the 5 Freeway grade, northbound, just past the Grapevine. The topography of the land was the greatest factor. When it's flat or downhill, you maximize your economy (common sense huh). Going uphill, the computer still does a great job with fuel and power management while in cruise control mode.
