This timeless play first premiered at the inaugural Paprika Festival in 2002. The End of Pretending is a powerful tale about two fifteen-year-old teens who spend a summer together. The character of Charlotte copes with the death of a parent while trying to hide it from herself and her best friend, Emily. Winner of the 2002 Summerworks Eye Audience Choice Award, the play went on to do a run at the Regent Theatre in Picton, and was then published by Playwrights Canada Press. It continues to resonate for young people for its charming and poignant depiction of two friends who become closer through loss. In addition to the common trials of teenage hood (boys, parties, drinking and self-image), the two girls pretend to be Charlotte and Emily Bronte and their imaginary world forces them to confront their secrets.
