This was at the Eleventh Kennedy Center Honors Awards Gala for 1988/1989. The honorees were: Alvin Ailey, George Burns, Myrna Loy, Alexander Schneider, and Roger L. Stevens. There is a question about the medal John is wearing. Could it be his NASA Public Service Medal, which he was awarded in 1985?
