They were told that they might never hear their baby cry. Kolt is the third boy in the McDaniel family. He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (no left ventricle). It was the most severe and most fatal form of HLS. The McDaniels decided to stay in Lubbock, under the care of Dr. Andrew Robinson. Kolt was born on a leap year, Feb. 29th. He was in the Cath Lab 5-minutes after birth. He had his first surgery 4-days after and his second surgery when he was exactly 6-months old.
