Colorado Fight Source had the opportunity to observe and interview Candice Smith, who is a confident Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student at castle rock Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She has been learning this art form for about 6 months now off and on, and has been with CRBJJ for about one month. One of the things that motivated Candice into learning Jiu Jitsu was watching UFC with her brothers and grappling with them in her parents basement. She is ex military and loves learning new things and is confident and persistent in her fields of study. She will be competing in the Pan-Am Internationals in LA in March 2011 as a white belt, she is currently training with CRBJJ for that event. Though she has had previous MMA training Mrs. Smith has found her home at CRBJJ When asked how Jiu Jitsu has impacted her life her response was " Jiu Jitsu has changed my life, it has made me a healthier person, and a more motivated person with my work and my family...with everything". " It has a power about it, when you put the gee on, and your rolling around on the mat, your brain is there your mind is there". She feels that Jiu Jitsu is a great stress reliever, For example if she "had a bad day at work and a good day on the mat it was a good day". She has made lots of good friends while learning Jiu Jitsu, and feels that it has been a very positive experience.
